Maggie Sadull

Maggie Sadullah

Artist

Maggie Sadullah is an artist with a passion for light and colour. Her trips to Italy, France, Morocco and Mediterranean countries, such as Malta have been a great font of inspiration for her. Her main luggage becomes her palette. In Maggie’s still life paintings she tries to make the objects speak volumes with use of colour and hot tone endeavouring to make her subjects seemingly unmoveable, come to life. Her landscapes use a mixture of pure colour and muted colour to provide a balanced composition. Her portraiture tends to be more realistic where her aim is to capture the viewer by the intensity of her subject’s expression and gaze. She hopes through her subject’s expression and their eyes that she can capture their spirit and soul. Maggie likes her paintings to ‘sing’ and often creates this effect by glazing paint over paint. Her influences are predominantly the great Henri Matisse. She was mesmerised by his use of colour when visiting an exhibition of his at The Tate Modern. Another of Maggie’s great influences (being Scottish) are The Scottish Colourists in particular Samuel Peploe. For her the beauty of his paintings are exquisite and pure. Maggie’s main aim on board ship is to unleash the artist and creativity in her students with a gentle guiding hand and to share her passion for art. She intends to build confidence and temper her tuition for each individual, numbers permitting. She is also happy to give demonstrations and off ship she will be painting ‘plein air’ where passengers are welcome to join her.
