A real gem of the Caribbean, Havana is a must-see destination for those who hate the cold. Known for being the capital and largest city in Cuba and is synonymous for its colourful, Spanish-inspired architecture, classical American cars, and tropical climate all year round. No matter what time of year you choose to visit Havana, you won’t be hard-pushed for things to keep you occupied.
The Malecón is a 7km long sea drive that runs right along the seafront in the city where Cuba’s culture bursts into action. The sea drive is a hub of activity all day long, whether that’s fishers, artists or couples enjoying the dreamy scenery. This location is best experienced at sunset when golden amber hues fill the skies.
Old Havana is arguably the best part of the city and is a breathtaking area to wander around, and it often takes a few days or several visits to experience everything. Often referred to as the neighbourhood of Habana Vieja, Old Havana dates to the 1500s. It is home to some of the oldest buildings in the area and sits right at the centre of the city. Old Havana is the place to come for shops, art galleries, restaurants, and cafes, as well as a vibrant and colourful atmosphere.

Although it is situated in the Caribbean, Willemstad has the look and feel of a Dutch city, surrounded by colourful, tall buildings and waterways. While the city has the look and feel of a European counterpart, the weather is definitely something that differs, with average temperatures sitting at 28c all year round, perfect for those looking to escape the cold. Perfect for cruisers due to its compact nature, it is easy to explore all the necessary areas in one day.
An iconic feature of Willemstad is the Queen Emma Bridge, or the Swinging Old Lady, as it is more locally known. The dramatic white bridge often opens and closes for passing cruise ships, and crossing the structure when it is closed is a great way to get a new perspective on the city.
Mambo Beach is picture-perfect and something you might find on the front of a postcard. The beach and the surrounding area are surrounded by luxury shopping, cafes, beach clubs and restaurants. The beach itself is bathed in white sand, and the sea is crystal clear, perfect for dipping a toe in on a hot day.

A lesser-known location, but a must-visit for those looking to enjoy the warmer weather in winter, St Johns is the capital of Antigua and Barbuda and is a key port in the Caribbean, so it is often on winter cruise itineraries. candy-coloured market stalls and an energetic city centre are what draw its visitors.
Betty’s Hope is a popular tourist attraction in the area and is the site of an old sugar plantation with a 300-year history. Learn about the history of the sugar trade and the European management that once controlled the plantations. It is commonly named one of the best and most informative attractions in Antigua.
Fort Barrington is another location that cruisers should make sure they visit when on a port day. Once a defence structure against French invasion, the fort is now an important reminder of the city’s history.

Capital of the island of Gran Canaria, Las Palmas is situated on the north-eastern side of the island and is popular with winter holidaymakers and cruisers due to its warm climate all year round. The stunning capital sits on the side of the coastline, most of which is elevated on a hill, offering panoramic views across the coastline. The city is a perfect blend of culture, beaches, restaurants, nature, and history, offering something for every visitor.
Vegueta is the old town that sits in the centre of Las Palmas and is well worth a wander on a port day. Plaza Santa Ana is an impressive area in the old town and is home to many iconic locations, including the Casas Consistoriales and the Palacio Episcopal.

Sandwiching the city between the mountains, the sandy beach is popular due to its city centre location and sprawling promenade. The beach spreads over 2km and is perfect for barefoot walks or a toe dip.

Whether you’re looking to wander around the city centre, head off on a trail walk into the mountains or sit and relax on the beach, all of these are possible in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
If you’re looking to wander the streets of Santa Cruz, then make sure you head towards the Tenerife Auditorium. Opened in 2003, the auditorium is a wonderful location to see a show, but its architecture is also a marvel and should be witnessed up close to be truly appreciated. Lit up at night, it can be seen from various viewpoints around the city.
The 12-hectare botanical gardens in Santa Cruz are a true wonder. The Palmetum of Santa Cruz de Tenerife specialises in palm trees and is the largest botanical collection in the world. The gardens are a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and a great way to spend a port day.
