What Are Single Supplements?

Are you planning to go it alone on your next cruise? Whether your usual cruising partner is unable to make your dream itinerary and you don’t want to let that stop you, or you’re looking to meet new people, cruising solo is a great way to have an adventure.

At Ambassador, we try to make it as easy as possible for those who want to cruise by themselves to do so. In this article, we explain single supplements and what they mean in terms of cruising, and we look into what cruising solo with Ambassador is like.

What is a “Single Supplement” on a Cruise?

When you cruise, a single supplement refers to the additional charge a person travelling alone will pay when booking a cabin designed for two.

This cost tends to fall higher than the per-person rate for a cabin when booked for two, but not totalling the full cabin cost when booked for two. The exact cost of a single supplement depends on a series of factors and will vary from itinerary to itinerary.

Booking a Solo Cruise with Ambassador

At Ambassador, we understand that many of our guests want to travel solo, whether they prefer to travel alone, or their usual travel companion is unable to make the trip. We’ve put a range of measures in place to make this as easy and as budget-friendly as possible so everyone can enjoy a singles cruise.

Each of our ships has a number of dedicated single-occupancy cabins spread across the ship. These cabins have no single supplement, as they’re specifically designed only to house one traveller. However, they are often popular, so it can be wise to book as early as possible to guarantee a single cabin!

Those who want to cruise on Ambition have 78 dedicated sole-occupancy cabins to choose from, and those cruising on Ambience can also choose from a number of sole-occupancy cabins across the ship so you can still have some choice about whether you’re inside or outside, have a balcony and more.

When browsing our cruises, you can easily toggle to see only solo prices, making it easier to know the cost of your holiday from the start. Just go to the cabin section of the cruise page you’re looking at and find the “Show Solo Prices Only” slider.

Cruising Solo with Ambassador

So, once you’ve booked your cruise, what will it look like when you come aboard?

Well, firstly, we ensure all of our guests who are travelling solo are invited to a series of events onboard. This allows you to meet fellow cruisers who you can spend your time cruising with, should you wish. You’re also more than welcome not to attend any of these meet-ups if you prefer to keep to yourself.

We’ll also always try to allocate tables to those cruising solo in the main dining room, where you’ll eat for the entirety of your cruise. This means that you can rest assured that, should you wish, each evening, you’ll be able to dine and unwind with the same group of familiar faces.

During sea days, there are plenty of things going on onboard, so should you want to take a break from the sun loungers, you’ll be able to join in on activities such as book clubs and craft workshops.
