Globetrotting and Gin: Tales from Our World Cruise

Tuesday 16 July 2024

Guests on Ambience cruise ship watching the arrival at the Panama Canal on a World Cruise

Ambience may have returned home, but we’re still overjoyed about the momentous occasion. From Spain to South Africa and the Panama Canal to Penang, our flagship brought her guests to the far reaches of our beautiful planet. Our first World Cruise was an incredible experience, and we are so grateful for every member of staff who made it happen, and every guest who joined us along the way.

In this article, we dive into some of the numbers behind this miraculous voyage.

With nearly 36,000 nautical miles covered, Ambience visited an amazing 22 countries! Starting at London Cruise Terminal, she visited locations from Casablanca to Cape Town, Lisbon to Lombok, Bora Bora to Bridgetown and more. We visited Europe, South America, Africa, Asia, Oceania and Central America on our grand voyage.

To cover all of this ground, she sailed through 35 time zone changes, including one crossing of the international date line, meaning the ship missed Valentine’s Day, jumping from the 13th to the 15th of February. Despite covering so much ground, she only saw 20 rainy days on her whole voyage!

Guests on the world cruise made the most of our dining options. From our signature restaurants, including Buckingham and Saffron, to our walk-up options, such as the ever-popular Borough Market, each day, our ship was buzzing with forks on plates and satisfied diners. In total, our guests ate a whopping 388,800 eggs and consumed 9,600 litres of ice cream! It was great to see guests turn to friends as each night went by, and we’re sure that there are now many firm friendships that’ll last a lifetime.

And it wasn’t just the meals that were enjoyed, as plenty was drunk, too. A cruise holiday is a time to unwind, and many choose to do that with a crisp beverage in hand, and we don’t blame them. In total, we served up 91,486 cans of beer and 17,960 draft beer cans, as well as 1,687 litres of gin and 24,554 cans of tonic! Don’t worry though, everyone stayed nice and hydrated, with 42,000 litres of water drunk along the way.

Onboard, the ship buzzed with excitement the whole time. Our Show Team and entertainers came out in full force to make sure there was never a dull minute on board, and we can confirm that there wasn’t. We saw a total of 116 show performances in the Palladium, 74 guest act performances, 72 gameshows, 16 pub quizzes and 16 karaoke evenings – what a lot of fun!
