From iconic landmarks along the waterfront to rich musical heritage and unique shopping spots, Liverpool offers something for every type of visitor. Dive into its fascinating museums, explore famous Beatles sites, and take in stunning views—all in just one day.
Kick off the day at Royal Albert Dock, which is home to fantastic museums including The Museum of Liverpool, TATE Liverpool and Merseyside Maritime Museum. Here you can also find Beatles Story, dedicated to the history of the Fab Four, from their humble beginnings to international fame. Once you’ve had your fill, you can wander along the waterfront where you can see the city’s three iconic landmarks, the Three Graces: the Royal Liver Building, the Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building. Fans of The Beatles won’t want to miss Mathew Street, the address of the Cavern Club where the band first played gigs. It’s said that the legendary group performed there 292 times between 1961 and 1963. And just around the corner on Stanley Street you will find a picture-worthy opportunity with the Eleanor Rigby Stature, built in 1982 by singer Tommy Steele.

After a refreshing pit-stop, make your way to Liverpool Cathedral. The majestic red sandstone building was constructed in 1904 and is the largest cathedral in the UK. It’s worth heading inside to check out its grand interior (entrance is free). If you want to see spectacular views of the city, you can also pay for a ticket (from £6) to climb up the cathedral tower. Fans of the beautiful game may want to book a tour of Anfield, home to Liverpool Football Club, where visitors can see the Kop and go into the changing rooms. If you’re in a rush, the on-site museum covers the history and displays the club’s coveted trophies. For a spot of shopping, head to Liverpool One, an open-air mall with more than 170 shops, bars and restaurants for you to choose from. An alternative place for dinner is Chinatown, whose beautiful archway is the largest outside of China. Not surprising, considering it’s the first Chinatown to be established outside of Europe! Here you will find many highly rated eateries, so take your pick and unwind after a day’s exploration.

The staircase in the Central Library inspired the stairs of Hogwarts in Harry Potter. It’s said that the producers of the film franchise were so impressed that they incorporated a version of it into the movie.
In 2004, Liverpool city centre was named a Unesco World Heritage Site. The city was dubbed an excellent example of a commercial port, and received the status due to its 19th- and 20th-century buildings.
