From sailing under the Northern Lights to exploring Iceland’s glaciers, geysers, and waterfalls, these experiences promise thrills at every turn. Whether you're racing across snowfields, sleeping in a luxury Sami tent, or marvelling at ice sculptures in the world’s northernmost igloo hotel, each adventure is designed to bring you closer to the wonders of the Arctic.
Get ready for an unforgettable experience! Not only will you visit some of the most popular attractions in Iceland, but you will also experience an exhilarating snowmobile adventure on Iceland’s second-largest glacier. Joining your Super 4x4 vehicle at the pier, your journey begins with a drive over the moorlands of Mosfellsheidi, an undulating lava field. Then you will visit the Geysir geothermal area; the place where the word ‘geyser’ originated. Here you will have some time to admire the powerful forces of Strokkur, an explosive geyser which spouts a high column of boiling water every few minutes. On a clear day, you may also be able to see the Langjokull Glacier in the distance. This is the second largest glacier in Iceland and the next stop on your adventure. Arfter that re-join your Super 4x4 for a transfer to the Gullfoss Waterfall. The ‘Golden Waterfall’ is the most famous of the country’s numerous waterfalls. Here, water rushes down a stone cascade into a ravine with incredible force, creating a powerful spectacle.
An unforgettable experience awaits those fortunate to secure a place on this overnight adventure! Holmen Husky Lodge will be your base for the night. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by your hosts and provided with appropriate winter outer clothing. After a safety briefing, you will take a seat on one of the dog sleds. Ably guided by your experienced musher, you will enjoy an approximate 20-30-minute ride through the wilderness. Back at base, take some time to relax before dinner and explore your room for the night – a luxury Sami tent furnished like a hotel room with a king-sized bed, electricity and a wood-burning stove. A two-course dinner consisting of seasonal products will be served in the restaurant located in the service building. If the skies are clear and there is aurora activity, you will no doubt want to be outside enjoying the opportunity of seeing the northern lights dancing above your head. The beauty of your Sami tent is that it has a large clear plastic ‘window’, allowing you to retire and keep watch on the skies from the comfort of your bed prepared with warm sheets and winter blankets.
A visit to the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel never ceases to amaze guests and should be on everyone’s ‘to do’ list when visiting Alta, Norway during the winter months. Departing from the port, an approximate 30-minute scenic drive will take you through Alta and into the Alta Valley to the world’s northernmost Igloo Hotel – Sorrisniva. Each year, a team of experienced ice artists and builders come together to build a new and unique ice hotel with a new, special theme. The hotel has an area of 2,500m2 and requires 250 tonnes of ice and 7,000m3 of snow to build. It opens in late December and closes its doors in early April each year. Inside the temperature remains between -4 and -7 degrees centigrade. The hotel features around 30 rooms, a central lounge, a chapel and a bar. Following a brief introduction from one of the hotel’s team, spend time exploring the different rooms at leisure; admiring the work of the talented ice sculptures.
